Not all that long ago, there was one and only one source of television viewing: your TV set. You had to be content with whatever programming the three major networks decided was best for you.

If this is your situation now, then you my friend, could use a little change. The 21rst century awaits. Read the following three tips on how to watch TV on the computer.

1) One method for downloading an entire movie onto your PC for free involves the use of BitTorrent networking. BitTorrent networking, a popular way to download music and movies, is a form of Internet peer-to peer (P2P) file sharing.

In P2P networking, a movie to be downloaded is first split up and distributed piece by piece among the people who want the movie. Then each person supplies the other with whatever missing piece that they need. This continues until everyone has a complete file.

The original intact movie that made the whole process possible was supplied by a person known as a seed. In order to use P2P networks for downloading movies, you first have to install what is called bitTorrent client software onto your PC.

One such client is called BitComet. Bitcomet is reliable and has been in use for several years. Next, you will want to look for a movie by using a torrent search engine such as torrentz.com. Enter your search query and hit return.

When you get a search result that you like, click on the link. You will end up at a page with the title of the movie and a 'Download Torrent' button or link.

Start the download process by clicking the link. After the transfer is complete, it is time for you to do your good deed for the day by being the next 'seed' and allowing others to share your file.

You do this by leaving your torrent client software running for a few hours. Please bear in mind that this description is a brief overview of the process.

It's important to know that copyrighted material cannot be downloaded legally. People have been prosecuted for illegal downloads using P2P.

2) If you are interested in transferring the TV programs from your television set to your computer or laptop it can be conveniently done with a USB TV tuner. This is an external device that simply connects into your television and PC.

This is very different from the TV tuner card which must be installed inside your PC. TV signals from the output ports on your television are transferred into the input ports of the USB TV tuner.

The modified signals are then sent to your laptop or PC via its USB port. With most USB TV tuners, TV shows can be fast forwarded, paused, rewound, and saved to your PC hard drive.

Many USB TV tuners can also burn TV shows to DVD. Prices range from $50 to $200.

3) A very quick method of watching TV on the computer with no learning curve or hardware is through the use of a special software download. The software gives you access to thousands of streaming TV stations directly off the Internet.

Other than the basics of having a computer with a fast Internet connection and a few common and free media players, there are no requirements. So that leaves us with the cost of the software itself which varies from $50 to around $100.

So now you have information on what is out there and how to go about getting it. Next step: go get it! Hopefully, this article has made very clear, the entertainment opportunities that are there for you to take.
